KIDSMOKE THE BLUEST YOU

Wrexham four-piece Kidsmoke have captured our attention today with their newest single ‘The Bluest You’. While commentary around mental health, and more specifically depression, isn’t anything new in the realm of music, we always welcome new voices to this vital conversation that we must always keep going regardless of what’s going on in the world. Moreover, Kidsmoke gives an interesting new perspective on depression that’s well worth your consideration, as the band explains, This song is a live favourite of ours. It is a fly on the wall look into a household where one person’s depression is affecting everyone else who lives there. The song doesn’t address the feelings of the person suffering with depression, it is a sort of commentary from the viewpoint of the rest of the family.” Soundtracked by dreamy indie-rock, pop hooks and rhythmic guitars, ‘The Bluest You’ puts the listener in the place of a close-at-hand observer. The scorching guitar riffs hint towards crisis points while the reliable verses reflect the daily patterns of depression. Inspired by Low and Heroes era David Bowie and the sombre lyricism of The National’s Matt Berninger, ‘The Bluest You’ marks an impressive evolution in Kidsmoke’s sound. They’ve never sounded better. - Hannah Thacker
